I tried visiting the park today as part of the LI history hunt. However, Julie denied us parking and access due to the summer camp in progress of wrapping up for the day. I'm sure this is a wonderful place, but it's being ran by very inconsiderate people.

A great Audubon sanctuary for birds,Learn, see and understand about nature, A wonderful experience for children. Take a peaceful walk and see birds and unplug. There is building that holds a lot of nature related stuff.nearby. . It is also the first National Audubon bird sanctuary. Plenty of parking in the nearby parking lot. The location is not easily seen from the main road, parking is located at the cemetery where the gravesite of Theodore Roosevelt is. If visit today the whole Sanctuary has

A beautiful fall afternoon with colorful trees and birds. This is a fairly small place, but it's very quiet and a lovely place for a leisurely walk. The fountain is also attractive and there are nearby benches to watch the birds or just read. My wife and I had a great time.

Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center is a 12 acre woods next to the Youngs Memorial cemetery where he is buried. There are three parallel trails to take through the woods. One higher one leading by the cemetery, one main middle one, and one lower one. You could take one out and another back for a loop trail. If so, I'd recommend going up the higher trail and coming back on the middle trail. It is quiet and offers seeing various birds along your walk.

The trails aren't too strenuous, they actually merge into each other during some points and all end back at the main entrance. There are a lot of recreational areas with benches and seating throughout the space. My favorite place was the frog pond that is located towards the beginning of the trail. It was fun looking for frogs, and h
